Another milestone has been reached in our life here in Indonesia; we have celebrated our first birthday! Daniel turned 4 years on Thursday 27th September. We had a very nice day celebrating his birthday from morning till evening with a small party in the afternoon. As the school/kindergarten had a week holiday, the day was celebrated there today. Daniel had a cake with him, that he had chosen himself. And no, it was not home-made. Buying fancy cakes at the bakery is an area where we can readily adjust to the culture 🙂
We also have to add that just a month ago we thought that we should not celebrate the day in the kindergarten. Daniel would not have handled/enjoyed all the attention. But then 3-4 weeks ago Daniel suddenly stood up in the gatherings they have in the mornings, and started participating and stopped being shy. After that he has readily stood in front of all the other children when being called forwards, so we realized that he was ready for a celebration…
Daniel did very well during his celebration. He stood in front of his class when they sang different songs for him, serious but very pleased. He blew out the candles, and all the children came to the front to shake his hand and say happy birthday. Then Daniel handed out cake to all the children, which he really enjoyed, and also to his teachers and the few parents/ maids who still accompany their children.
We will end off this post with a picture of Daniel on his birthday eating chocolate cake for breakfast 🙂
